Summer into Autumn, Rose infused oil

What a beautiful way to carry some of summer with us into the colder months of the year.  Make a rose infused oil! An absolute favorite method of mine and very simple way of making a rose infused oil is to dry some rose peatals from your summer garden in the sun or purchase a bag of dry rose buds, place your dried rose petals/ buds in a sterilised glass jar ( mason jars work welll ) and fill it with a carrier oil. the size of the jar will depend on how many rose petals / buds you have chosen to use.  Be sure there are no rose buds/petals left uncovered. The carrier oil should rise just above the dry flower matter. ( Jojoba is my oil of choice, it can be used on both body and the face )  Close the lid and leave it in a cold and dry place for about four weeks. Next, strain the herbal material through a soft cloth to get a lovely rose infused oil. Pour back into your original airtight jar or a small brown glass dropper bottle.  You can then use this oil as is on th...

Neti for seasonal allergies

The Neti pot is Ayruveda’s remedy for seasonal allergies.  Cleansing and protecting our breathing nasal passages is essential for our well being & has played a vital role in both yoga & Ayurveda for thousands of years,  The Neti pot is designed as a handheld ceramic, metal or plastic pot, similar to a tiny tea pot, in which one puts a basic recipe of warm salt water (non iodised salt, think sea salt or Himalaya salt) to rise the nasal passages and sinus area.  By keeping this area well cleansed and lubrictaed, irritation from seasonal allergies are kept to a minimum by cleansing the nasal passages of collected pollen and irritants.  Ayurveda recommends as little as 3x per week to rinse w Neti or daily if the condition is anything more than mild during allergy season. Neti usually does not interfere with allergy medications however if you use a nasal spray it is best to use Neti BEFORE you're spray.  *As always consult with your Doctor before making any c...

Three seed tea, CCF

Enjoy this three seed tea, everyday! Corriander, Cumin & Fennel tea, for short CCF is considered a classic Ayurvedic herbal support remedy you can drink everyday. What exactly does CCF tea do you may ask?  CCF tea is considered a classic Ayurvedic tonic which regulates digestion & supports the bodies natural detoxification process which makes it the perfect remedy for all doshas that you can drink safely everyday.  Sipping a cup of warm CCF tea with your noon time meal (according to Ayruveda we should eat our biggest meal of the day when the sun is at its highest) or before / after any meal supports a comfortable digestion by reducing gas and bloating & intentional spasms.  As with any new herbal support always check with your Doctor particularly if you have diabetes or if you are allergic to celery, carrots or dill.

Liquorice & ginger infused honey recipe

A fantastic remedy recipe for balancing vata & pitta during the winter months ( or all year round for that matter ) I use this honey to sweeten morning yogurt, in my chai spiced oatmeal, in my tea or simply put a teaspoon in a cup of hot water sip and enjoy anytime of the day to receive the benefits of liquorice and ginger.  https://hormonesbalance.com/recipes/ginger-licorice-infused-honey/

Vata season

Late Autumn up until the peak of mid winter is know as vata season in Ayurveda & here in Sweden this is generally considered October thru February.  The qualities of vata are cold, light, rough, dry, moving & subtle.  We can see an imbalance of excess vata in symptoms such as dry skin, constipation, insomnia or feeling unfocused or spaced out, for example. An excess of vata also shows up as tension, stiffness, aches & pains in our body. In order to remain healthy and focused during vata season is to eat warm, nourishing foods, drink hot herbal teas such as ones made of ginger and tumeric, to keep the digestive fire going. They are also anti inflammatory herbs too! Keep to a daily schedule /routine that includes at least a few minutes of mindful stillness  and breathing.  One of the most beneficial and enjoyable ways to keep vata in balance is to take a warm oil massage which in Ayurveda, is called ABHYANGA. Abhyanga is deeply relaxing, replenishing...
